About the farm

Free Range Greens is a small organic microgreens farm based out of White Salmon, WA. We grow our microgreens in organic soil under energy efficient LED grow lights. This method is a highly sustainable form of agriculture, as it requires very little water and produces very little waste. Plus, the fact that it can be grown year-round, means you can order fresh, nutritious microgreens any time of year. Our greens are grown locally and delivered directly to your door, so you can enjoy the benefits of farm-to-table produce without leaving your home.

My Story

"Free Range" - Usually we hear this term associated with chickens; the happy ones that live most of their lives outdoors, retreating to their coop only at night or when weather requires them to do so. I chose this name for my microgreens farm because it perfectly describes the lifestyle I choose to live!

My life is full of adventure, travel and plants. I'm also incredibly passionate about growing my own food, and wanted a way to be able to provide nutritious produce to my community, while also still being able to live a life full of adventure. Living a life on the move can sometimes make it hard to eat well, which is why I've grown to love the concept of microgreens. They're far more nutrient dense than say, mature spinach or kale, and on top of that, they taste amazing! If you only have time to eat a handful of greens a day, you'll get far more nutrients in your body if you opt for microgreens.

FAQ

Sprouts on the left, microgreens in the center, mature greens on the right

What the heck are microgreens??

Microgreens are the earliest stage of a vegetable plant’s development, after the sprouting stage.

They are “living foods” – Purposefully utilized in their most nutritious and delicious state.

In this photo, you can see sprouts on the left, microgreens in the middle, and a more mature vegetable plant on the right.

What's so great about microgreens?

Since microgreens are harvested when the plant is still small, you're getting a much more densely packed dose of vitamins and minerals in each bite compared to the mature form of the plant. In fact, vitamin and antioxidant levels in microgreens have been found to be up to 40X higher than mature greens. They're also higher in folate, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and potassium.

How do I use microgreens?

Use them the same way you would any greens mix. In salads, breakfast scrambles, sandwiches, wraps, soups, smoothies, etc. The possibilities are endless!

How long do microgreens last?

The average life for cut microgreens is roughly 14 days. Microgreens should always be kept in the fridge, as you would with any leafy green. We deliver our microgreens less than 24 hours after they're harvested, so your order is as fresh as it can be when it reaches your doorstep.
